Fledge · Help
How Fledge works.
Fledge answers one question: what can I actually spend? There are two halves to it - a plan you set up once, and one thing you do as you go. Setting up takes about five minutes.
The same guide is inside the app, under the ? button at the top of the home screen.
Set it up once
Five minutes, and you only really do this again when something changes.
Put in what is coming in
Tap Money in and add your wages, allowance, anything you are expecting. Put the date you actually get it.
If it arrives every week or month, tick Repeats and Fledge will keep adding it for you.
Add the things you have to pay
Tap Money out, and choose Must pay. Rent, your phone, a subscription - the ones that are not really a choice.
These come out first, before anything else.
Budget for everything else
Still Money out, but leave it on Budget for. The weekly shop, petrol, going out.
Put in what you think it will be. It does not have to be right - that is the point of step 6.
Then, day to day
This is the part you actually use. Most days it is one number and one tap.
Open the app and look at the top
Available to spend is the answer: your money, minus the must-pays still coming, minus what you have budgeted.
It says how far it stretches - “until Sunday” - so it is never a vague figure.
Underneath it, Upcoming payments shows the next three things due, so nothing lands as a surprise.
Spent something? Key it straight in
On the home screen, tap the amount on the keypad - 2, 5, 0 gives £2.50. There is no decimal point to hunt for.
Tap a word for what it was, like Drink or Food. The words are the ones you use most; you can skip it entirely.
Tap the tick. The number at the top drops there and then. That is the whole thing.
Check the things you planned
Tap Available to spend to open your plan.
Tap the circle next to a row once it has actually happened.
Spent something different from what you budgeted? Tap the row, put in what it really came to, and Fledge shows both - “budgeted £50, £62, £12 over”.
Move what is left into a pot
Pots are money set aside for something - a holiday, an emergency, a new phone. They live in the Pots tab, and each one can have a target.
At the end of the week Fledge offers to move whatever is left over into one, so it does not quietly get spent.
The words Fledge uses
- Available to spend
- What is left after the must-pays still coming and what you have budgeted. Not your balance - your balance still has the rent in it.
- Spending record
- The keypad on the home screen. Money that has already gone, in as few taps as we could manage.
- Must pay
- You have no real choice. Paid first.
- Budget for
- You will spend something - the amount is your best guess until you check it.
- Nice to have
- Only if the money reaches it.
- Left over
- What remains after your must-pays and your budgets.
- Pot
- Money set aside, kept separate from your everyday money. In its own tab.
- Week or month
- Change it in Account. Weeks suit you if you are paid weekly.
Something says it won't fit
Fledge works down the list in order - must-pays first, then the things you budget for, then the nice-to-haves. If your money runs out before it reaches something, that row is crossed out and tells you the day it ran short.
It is not an error. It is the app saying: this is the one you would have to drop.
